I had offers from two other state schools but instead decided to go to Brown because it was a private school with a good reputation. I enjoyed my experience, although ensuring full funding for post graduate students gets difficult as they progress along their Ph.D. program. I would recommend the University for the quality of education, a relatively low teaching load (if you are a T.A. compared to a state school) and polite and smart students!
No the University offered very little in terms of helping students find jobs. However this is not really the University's problem - partly it is the market in the Humanities and Social Sciences that appear to offer very little in terms of academic job opportunities
